SOTW: Ho Hey, MSR! ♥

0

SOTW - February 14 to February 20, 2016

This is the perfect song of the week.

Ho Hey by The Lumineers.

Simply because...Babylon. This is the perfect Mulder and Scully song.

I never thought I would actually listen to this song like I do now. Don't get me wrong, I liked it. I would listen to it when it's on the radio, but I won't put it on repeat. Then Bablyon came, everything changed. I love this song now. I could not even stop listening to it. It's the Mulder and Scully effect, I suppose. My OTP.

Wonders never cease with you

Hello there, you two! I belong with you. You belong with me. You're my sweetheart! ♫  That's what you call a mini music video. Right there. ♥ Valentine's Day present from the one and only Chris Carter. Well-done, sir. Well-done!

SOTW: The Space Between ♥

2

SOTW - July 5 to 11, 2015

It has been one hell a taxing week, however I was fortunate enough to have time and listen to (and watch amazing live performances of) great music by brilliant bands and artists.

Here are my top 5 songs of the week! ;)

#5 - Trouble by Ray LaMontagne

First heard this song on American Idol when Taylor Hicks sang it. It has since been included in my playlist. Having watched the live performance on YouTube made it one of my most played songs/videos this week. A really nice song from an awesome soulful artist.

#4 - Emotion Sickness by Silverchair

It was a toss between Emotion Sickness or Without You. I mean, I looooove Without You more than this song, but this performance is simply EPIC. It actually made the song MORE epic than it already is. I couldn't help but get into this song and watch other performances, but this just had the best audio and the best video. Must share, must watch.

#3 - Don't Look Back In Anger - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds

A stripped down version of this song has always been my favorite. The Argentina version, the Wembley version, and just the acoustic or semi-acoustic versions have always, ALWAYS been my favorite. Well, that of course wouldn't stop me from listening to the original version. This is probably my most-played Oasis track on Spotify and even on my mp3 player. It is my favorite Oasis song. This recent performance, however, brought Don't Look Back In Anger's beauty as a song even more. This guitar and piano version is everything.

#2 - Deep Inside of You - Third Eye Blind

Stephan Jenkins isn't my favorite band vocalist, but man did he sing this song so beautifully! One of my favorite 3EB songs and one of my favorite performances from them. 3EB's Fillmore concert remains to be their best. That is, for me. The performance said it all. Oh, again with the piano! ♥ I probably re-played this more than I should hahaha.

#1 - The Space Between - Dave Matthews Band

My most favorite DMB song, everyone.

My ultimate favorite song of the week has to be The Space Between by the Dave Matthews Band. It could have been Snow Outside but came across this video and for me, my favorite version yet. Perfect version. TOO MUCH EMOTIONS. TOO MANY FEELS. This is certainly the most played song (this version and the album version) of the week. I just love Space Between. This song introduced me to this amazing band. Didn't pay much attention to DMB until this song came out in 2001. I am hoping they decide to have a World Tour and have a concert here in The Philippines and play this song live. That would be a dream come true. I'd do everything in my power to watch DMB live in concert. Please, DMB. Please.

Blog as it happens.

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds have done it again! I loooove these two. I love Dave Matthews Band. I loooooove Dave Matthews! ♥

I've been waiting for these Farm Aid 2014 videos since I don't even know when. Hahahaha!

So glad to have the time for YouTube!

First up, SNOW OUTSIDE. Ahhhh!!!! This song is one of my top favorites from Away from the World. Sooo happy they decided to sing this song live at Farm Aid! I can't even express how happy I am. Hahaha! It's such a beautiful performance of a beautiful song. I just looove everything about this performance!

Next, OH. It's kinda cheeeeesy yet I love it! Haha! I love you oh so well.

Finally, ANTS MARCHING. Oh, this song will never get old. Another amazing performance! DMB is one of the greatest bands ever! I hope I'd be able to watch them live. Experience and witness their greatness.

Must watch the whole DMB Farm Aid 2014 segment.

PS: This is what happens when I blog in real time. lol. TOO. MUCH. FANGIRL-ING.

OneRepublic LIVE in Manila #OneRepublicMNL

0

They're coming!!!

Mark your calendars, people. OneRepublic Live in Manila, November 6, 2013 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum!

I might not be an avid OneRepublic fan but I am a casual fan. And, casual fans are equally important nonetheless. Their 'Waking Up' album is my favorite album from them, so far. This is probably one of the reasons why most of my favorite OneRepublic songs come from 'Waking Up'. That being said, I'd like to share my Top 5 OneRepublic songs. Ryan Tedder is full of talent and has great songwriting skills.

Top 5!
5. Apologize
This song is simply a classic OneRepublic song. The song that started it all for them (for me).
4. Waking Up
Definitely a crowd pleaser. I can imagine them perform this song live and everyone just into it. It has the 'revolution' feel--a musical revolution.
3. All This Time
This is why I appreciate OneRepublic so much. The love for piano. Simplicity at its finest.
2. Fear
It's hauntingly beautiful. It just is.
1. Good Life
A fan video led me to this song and I instantly fell in love with it. Amazing song that brings happy memories. I guess it reminds me of the days when life was simple, happy and peaceful. Plus, it gives me The X-Files feels. Love that show so much. Most importantly, it gives you that joy of living a good life.

Good Life just gives me a lot of feels. This video. That song. OneRepublic. They Win.

So, why am I looking forward to watch them live? Well, that's easy! I am aware of the fact that OneRepublic is amazing live and it would be a great experience to witness this during their concert here in the Philippines. It would not only be a great opportunity to see them perform live but it would mean a lot to me to watch them perform my favorite songs LIVE. See, the imagination has the chance to become a reality. That's how great it would be. That's the best reason I could think of why I am looking forward to watch OneRepublic LIVE. See you there?!

:)

BLUE SKIES.

7

I've tried a similar thing before but I'm going to try it again since April said so! This is quite cool ha. Really. If you think about it, it is.

The mechanics:
1. Put your iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc. on shuffle
2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.
3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS.
4. Tag people **
5. Everyone tagged has to do the same thing and tag the person who tagged him/her back. **
6. Have FUN!
**No need to tag. This is a blog post, not a Facebook/Twitter post. Yep, the rules have changed in this world. You can do it if you want to.

This is music history!

0

The fact that I have not posted this here is unacceptable. Noel Gallagher and Blur in one stage--this, my friends, is music history!

I have been trying not to post music related entries considering that previous ones were directly or indirectly about music. Well, I guess, music speaks to me right now. Ha!

This one's just too cool not to post. Sooo...screencap first! Haha.

I knew of the so-called feud between Oasis and Blur back in the 90s. Never in my life--nor did the fans--expected this to happen. I, certainly, did not. Well, it did! The rest as they say is, 'history'. Fans of both Oasis (in a way) and Blur, let us rejoice! Plus, this is TENDER--one of my favorite Blur songs ever. Hehe. I'm quite familiar with some of their songs ha and not pretending here. Not a diehard Blur fan, but I do love several songs of theirs. Great band!

Appreciate!

Witness this AMAZING moment in music history.

Blur and Noel Gallagher.

Oasisnewsbrazil, thank you for sharing this on YT!

Love it! :)

For the nostalgia!

0

YouTube brings back memories. There are times when you just miss the good old days.

Butterfly.

I have been watching this live performance of Butterfly since last night. I was once not a fan of this song but live performances often change everything. I guess you can truly appreciate the beauty of the song when you see and hear it live. Well, there are certain times when it does. Heh. It was this moment.

Mariah Carey's live performance of this song on The Late Show with David Letterman has always been one of my favorites (to be honest, most of her Letterman performances are in my book of favorites). Some might not appreciate the breathy technique but it suits the song so well. She just gives you the 'feels'. This was raw, intense and emotional. The vulnerability -- exceptional. I love the way she sang the verses, 'flourish' and 'courage'. You could just feel the emotion in the song. I can go 'Keith Urban' here and just be so passionate in expressing what I think and feel but I just can't. HA!

Let's just say that I have come to realize how great this song is and how it has become one of my favorite songs ever. Yes, not just by Mariah Carey, but includes all songs by my favorite artists.

Butterfly is definitely one of the best songs ever written.

Simple life.

I don't know why, but that Butterfly performance reminded me of the good old days--when life was simpler.

There's nothing wrong with  change. I have always been open to change. I love change. Innovations are good. Advancement in technology is a sign of progress. However, as society changed, people did--some, radically. We have become too dependent on technology. We have become lazy. We have too many 'reality' shows. We complain a lot and yet, we do nothing. We merely complain. We complicate things. WE. COMPLICATE. THINGS. *guilty*

Back then, we just simply lived our lives. We talked to real people. WE. TALKED. We read books, played in the streets (the safe side, of course) and watched MTV or Channel V--the real music channels that had music videos and not reality shows.

Life was simple.

It felt like it was. That's probably because I was young-er ha.

Ohh...there's that song by John Legend, It Don't Have To Change. Imagine that! I managed to squeeze in another song. Heh.

Here it is!

Do you rememberrrrr?

Album Review: The World From The Side Of The Moon

5

Of Artistic Freedom, Phillip Phillips, and Great Music

American Idol Season 11 Winner, Phillip Phillips, has recently released his debut album entitled The World From The Side Of The Moon. For an American Idol debut album, it exceeded expectations—both sales-wise and quality-wise. The thing about being an American Idol winner is that people expect you to fail. Past American Idol winners labeled as WGWG (White Guy With Guitar) were not as successful as Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. A lot of people seemed to be in an agreement that the ‘American Idol’ spark had died down. Well, not until Scotty McCreery and now, Phillip Phillips were crowned as American Idol winners. Freedom has something to do with it—probably.

Before the release of Phillips’ debut album, he and the label promised an album that would stay true to his music. Well, that would require artistic freedom. True enough, Jimmy Iovine and company gave Phillip just that—the freedom to write, choose and play the music he likes and he identifies with. However, doubters remain doubters until the release of The World From The Side Of The Moon. The reviews came out and most of them have been positive, hailing the album as one of the best American Idol album debuts. Many would thank the most successful American Idol Winner Single, HOME for Phillip’s success but most would agree that the album itself is compelling enough to say that this kid has a great future ahead of him.

Having written and co-written majority of the songs in his album, there is no doubt Phillip Phillips is an artist to look up to—now and in the years to come. The comparisons with Dave Matthews and Mumford and Sons might not die down soon enough, but Phillip has a name of his own—as an artist and a musician. There is nothing wrong with sounding like someone when there is that line between them. That line makes these artists different from each other. Phillip often says that the comparison between him and Dave Matthews or Mumford and Sons has always been a great compliment. Many would agree with him. It is a fact that everyone should learn how to accept. Every artist has experienced these comparisons and most of them has dealt and has been dealing with it their entire career. In the end, they end up being legends. Phillip Phillips could be one of them.

The World From The Side Of The Moon showcases Phillip Phillips as a singer-songwriter and a great guitar player. Here’s a track-by-track review of the album.

The first track on the album, ‘Man on the Moon’, is a song written solely by Phillip. Apparently, the first line of the song was the inspiration behind the album title. When asked about that line, Phillip said it was the way he viewed himself after winning American Idol. Hence, it has something to do with the success he has been blessed with. The Phillip Phillips vibe is clearly in this song. It is also a great song to perform live.

'Home’ is the second track from the album and his first single. The song is the most successful American Idol Winner’s Single ever. As of today, it has been certified double platinum by the RIAA selling 2 million copies and counting. It is predicted to hit the 3 million mark and be certified triple platinum. Written by Drew Pearson and Greg Holden, ‘Home’ captures what is now known as the Folk Americana music. The song is inspiring and can be identified with Phillip’s folksy and indie side.

As a follow-up to Home, ‘Gone, Gone, Gone’ will be a strong second single for the album. It is set to be released as a single next year and it will be huge, huge, huge. The catchy chorus has become a great hook. The ‘beat of the drum’ is beautiful. It definitely grows on you the more you listen. This track was written by Derek Fuhrman, Todd Clark and Greg Wattenberg. This is a love song which is not cheesy. And, that’s great!

Of all the songs in the album, ‘Hold On’ is the song that has powerful words—not too wordy, but powerful. This is a song Phillip Phillips wrote and it shows how good a songwriter he is. ‘I fall into a sacred rage of escape/ The hells of the world made of puppets and fake’—a deep and dark song yet inspiring piece of music! Further, Phillip shows his range in this song—one which some people fail to recognize in spite of his beautiful rendition of Dave Matthews Band’s The Stone. The range he has shown in this song was reminiscent of that studio recording.

Tell Me A Story’ is said to be Phillip’s favorite song off the album. He co-wrote this song with David Ryan Harris. Like Hold On, this song shows how a great songwriter Phillip is. People can relate to this song. It is full of hope and inspiration. ‘Hope is just a ray of what everyone should see/ Alone is the street where you found me’ and ‘Scared of what’s behind you/ Scared of what’s in front of you/ Live with what you have now and make the best of what’s to come. He sure can write what people think, feel and can relate to.

If you want the groovy and funky side of Phillip, this song is for you. ‘Get Up Get Down’ would definitely remind you of Dave Matthews Band—in a good way. Everything Dave Matthews-esque Phillip does is as natural as him walking. This song will sound great live. Imagine the crowd dancing and cheering in a stadium. It is a fun song to follow the mellow Tell Me A Story.

Where We Came From’ has a catchy chorus. It’s rhythmic and melodic at the same time. Phillip has always been known to not sing the melody, but in this album, he proves that he can. You can be rhythmic (verses) and melodic (choruses) as an artist—it’s just a matter of when and how. Laid-back Phillip!

Similar to ‘Get Up Get Down’, ‘Drive Me’ brings the groove and the funk. Some would put it as ‘sexy’. Well, it is. You can just imagine the ladies swoon when he sings this live. The horn, the drums, the guitars and every instrument you hear simply fit the song. It will drive your crazy.

‘Wanted Is Love’ has an amazing intro. The strings perfectly suit the song. The song would not be complete without it, unless, of course, he comes up with a great live version of this song. This one has the ‘rock’ feel—dark, deep and beautiful. Again, Phillip shows his range in this song. Another awesome song solely written by Phillip.

Phillip goes country with ‘Can’t Go Wrong’. The verses are as awesome as the chorus (or, even better). This is another song which could be huge when sang live. You can see and hear people singing-a-long live by simply listening to it. Phillip co-wrote this song with ‘Home’ masters Greg Holden and Drew Pearson.

‘A Fools Dance’ is another dark sounding song written by Phillip. Although it is one of the least mainstream songs on the album, it is one of the best. From the lyrics to music, it is impossible for someone not to love the song. It’s dark, but magical.

Finally, ‘So Easy’. This song is probably the most pop of all songs in the album. The chorus just gave it away. Although it is too pop for some, it is (quoting American Idol judges) a ‘breath of fresh air’.

As to the bonus tracks, two songs Phillip wrote (one with his girlfriend, Hannah Blackwell entitled ‘Take Me Away’) way before American Idol which have been loved by his fans made the cut in two different deluxe editions. These songs have shown how he has been true to himself as an artist. Both are simply beautiful. Oh, Hazel is a lovely song. Phillip’s version of ‘Wicked Game’ is brilliant. Also, he has a cool version of ‘Thriller’—the song that he sang during his American Idol audition.

Taking these things into account, ‘The World From The Side Of The Moon’ has indeed exceeded expectations. The album debuted at #4 on Billboard 200 and topped the Rock Albums Charts and iTunes Album Charts.

Congratulations, Phillip Phillips!

Rating: 4/5

If you have not purchased the album yet, please do so!

All I Want For Christmas Is...

0

...a classroom-instrument arrangement.

Steven Tyler would have put it as 'BRILLIANTLY AWKWARD.' All I can say is, this performance is simply BRILLIANT. It seems to me that people are really enjoying this fun version of Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'. Props to The Roots, Jimmy Fallon, the lovely kids and the queen, Mariah Carey. The classic Christmas song with a festive twist.

Everyone, this is...ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU, the classroom-instrument arrangement.

Fun. Cute. Awesome. Amazing. Brilliant. Genius.

Share the fun. Yes.

Album Preview: 'The World From The Side Of The Moon'

3

Phillip Phillips' debut album, 'The World From The Side Of The Moon' is set to be released on November 19, 2012. In case you haven't heard the previews yet, you must listen to it now. I am more than excited! I can't wait to hear the whole album. I am loving all the songs based on the snippets alone. Apparently, the album has three versions/editions--the regular CD, the deluxe edition and the Target deluxe edition. Well, die hard fans would surely want to have all these esp. the Target deluxe edition (I would definitely want a copy of the Target deluxe album ha).

Take a listen!

The World From The Side Of The Moon

My Early Favorites: Gone Gone Gone, Hold On, Tell Me A Story, Drive Me, A Fool's Dance

It's done!

0

This should have been posted a week ago. Thursday, to be exact, but I just didn't know what else to blog about. If I went through with it, this is what would have been posted:
I am soooo done with the world the case digests! Hoorayyyy!
That's it--nothing more, nothing less. Heh.

Uh-huh. No more case digests to think about. Too bad I was not able to take a photo of my precious digest. Haha. Oh well...it would have been cool considering how the world is right now--everything is documented. (Sayanggg!)

Anyway, the whole point of this post is...MERCY. Dave Matthews Band is back and I am a happy fan. This is such an amazing song--very, very inspiring. This is what music is all about. This is what great music is. GENIUS.

 Don't give up
I know you can see
All the world and the mess that were making
Can't give up
And hope God will intercede

Thank you for this song, DMB. Thank you.

'Gimme the love of an orchestra'!

0

Instead of flooding Facebook with YouTube videos, I will be sharing these amazing live performances of Noah and the Whale here--just in case you come across my lovely blog (laughs). Some of you might have heard of, or even know the band called Noah and the Whale. Pretty cool and definitely amazing. I will be writing a more decent entry about them soon, or not.

Right now, let's just deal with these performances and of course, their amazing music.

This is A+MAZING! The violin solo, the lyrics, the emotion--everything about this song is brilliant. The First Days of Spring is one of my favorite songs from this band. This performance is flawless!

Yes, gimme the love of an orchestra! <3 You have got to love the orchestra.

And of course, my most favorite song from Noah and the Whale. The song which led me to their other songs...BLUE SKIES.

The Descendants led me here moment. Learned of this band because of the movie's trailer, and for that, I will forever be grateful. Haha! :)

I just love the instrumentals. BEAUTIFUL.

'Idols' Tour 2012 Live in Manila!

0

Two years in a row! 'Idols' live in Manila. Now, it's Season 11's Top 10.

A few days ago, there were only rumors. Now, it seems to be the real deal. Apparently, Ovation Productions has confirmed that the Top 10 of American Idol Season 11 will be performing live in Manila on September 21 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. It has been written in the newspapers (The Philippine Star, to be exact), posted by news websites (ex. abscbnews) and shared on official Facebook pages of 'sponsors' or 'partners' (I am not really sure how you classify them--ex. Odysseylive).

Phillip Phillips, Colton Dixon, Heejun Han, Erika Van Pelt, Hollie Cavanagh, Elise Testone, Jessica Sanchez, DeAndre Brackensick, Joshua Ledet and Skylar Laine, see you in September! :)

I missed Season 10's 'Idol' Tour last year. I would not want to miss this one, this year. Why? Phillip Phillips. I do want to see him perform live! Definitely. He is the American Idol. He is my favorite. He is the best of the season--total package wise. He is a true artist and a great musician. A singer. A songwriter. What more can you ask?

Must. Save. Money. Now.

Uhm, yes, I am still waiting for the Foo Fighters. This year.

If this can happen. The Foos will happen.

Top 5: Mariah Carey Videos.

0

Finally came up with a list of my favorite Mariah Carey videos. Quite a number to choose from. True, just like other artists out there, there are hits and misses. (giggles) Rest assured, these videos are "hits".  That is, awesome videos of her amazing songs. Believe me, there are a lot.

Begin.

5. Hero

Classic Mariah. Releasing a great live performance of a song as an official video is a thumbs up! It captures everything--the artist's greatness, the feeling of the song, the emotion, the crowd, the reception. Everything. This video has that. This performance of Hero is simply amazing. Stellar live performance. Captivating. That guy's reaction? Priceless.

4. Always Be My Baby

It goes with the song. Such a fun, light and simple video. This is how you use a "swing". I don't know but I just love this video. Fun fun fun yet somber in a way. You'll get it. It's a lamb thing!

3. We Belong Together

Wentworth Miller. Worth it. Seriously though, I think this video is her best among the 00's videos. Mr. Ratner did pretty well with this one. Loved the concept, the emotion, and the directing. Yet another "it goes with the song" video. It cannot be denied--the song is brilliant and the video is worth watching. Favorite part: the feeling that I'm feeling now I don't hear your voice...(Well done, Mimi!)

2. Breakdown

One of Mariah Carey's best songs ever and definitely one of her best videos. Something to do with the Vegas effect? Costumes? Bone Thugs? Yeah, maybe. I mean, it worked. The song is amazing. The video is cool to watch. Glamorous yet subtle. I am not sure how you'd reconcile it but it is what it is.

1. Honey

Honey is my most favorite Mariah Carey video of all time! Mariah's vision is unparalleled. This video has it all--the concept, the story line, the acting, the action, the 'leading' man, the Bond effect, the statement--everything. Total video. When it's brilliant, sometimes, it's all that you can say. This video is as such. Kudos to Paul Hunter!

Well, this concludes the Top 5.

Thoughts, anyone?

'U Got It Bad' was soooo good that it's not even 'bad'.

If that title even makes sense...

Phillip Phillips'd it!

There is no doubt that Phillip Phillips is my favorite 'Idol' this season. I have been a fan since Day 1--the audition, that is. Every week, he has been consistently great. Well, of course they had to throw him under the bus somehow (not this week, of course), to challenge him even more. I believe a lot of people appreciate his style, passion and soul. His music, I can't wait for everyone to hear. I've heard one original song and for sure, the rest will be awesome.

This week, I just can't seem to get over his cover of U Got It Bad. Not a fan of Usher but I do appreciate his music. Phillip Phillips just made this song his own as he always does but there's just something about this which makes it different. He made this R&B song bluesy at the same time soulful and current. The musicianship, the artistry, it is undeniable. One of the best this season. Definitely. Maybe not the vocal pipes some people are looking for but when you talk about being a true artist, Phillip Phillips is D' Man!

My favorite part, 1:11-1:21. The way he sang the lyrics, just brilliant. FULL OF BRILLIANCE. Feel the song, the soul, the passion. He delivers everything so perfectly. The studio version is FULL OF WIN as well. 'Full of win' seems to be my phrase of the week. It just is. U GOT IT BAD IS FULL OF WIN. You may download the studio version on iTunes. In the Midnight Hour was a great performance too. The dance is priceless.
